Our key services for Board development

CA’s portfolio of support services for Board development range from Board evaluation to establishing and implementing a robust Board Development Plan.

Board Evaluation
Rigorous analysis of how the Board and its subcommittees function begins with interviews with all directors and with key personnel, who have regular interactions with the Board. It includes observation of at least one Board meeting and a detailed report to the chair/senior non-executive. Typically, it also includes a facilitated review session, in which the Board reflects upon the report and plans how to improve performance. The structure of the evaluation varies according to the level of Board being assessed (for example, main Board of a quoted company, or third tier Board in a public sector organisation).

Stepping up to the Board
A fast-paced introduction for new or aspiring directors into the practicalities of their new role, this short programme assists the transition in thinking and behaviour from manager to director. Topics include maintaining the strategic level of dialogue, the competences and ethics of effective directors, and the quality of decision-making.

The Communicating Board
A one-day event involving the Board and selected internal and external stakeholders to improve effectiveness of communication by the Board. Critical topics include managing Board reputation, how the Board communicates change and the role of directors as role models for the corporate values.

The Leader as Coach or Mentor
As global thought leaders in coaching and mentoring, CA brings a wealth of expertise into helping directors and top team members increase their abilities as developers of others.

Strategy facilitation
Expert facilitation of “away days” to focus on wider strategic issues than those, which appear on the regular Board Agenda.

Managing Risk and Innovation – the Board’s role
A top-down perspective on risk and innovation, exploring how deeply the Board should examine risks, how it can ensure that all critical risks are being managed, and how to assess the organisational climate, in terms of risk and innovation.

Merging Boards
If the Board can’t merge smoothly, the rest of the organisation certainly won’t. We help the directors and top team members develop rapid rapport, communicate the same messages and demonstrate those elements of teamwork, which are relevant at this level in an organisation.

The Board Development Plan
Integrating individual developmental goals with the collective requirements for improving the capability and function of the Board.
